The Schoharie Village Police Department operates on a part-time basis, covering approximately 1.70 square miles, assisting nine hundred and fifty residents. We presently have four Police Officers and an Officer In Charge. The officers collectively work seventy-two hours monthly and special events. The Officer In Charge, sixty hours monthly including special events. We strive to ensure the quality of life of our residents and visitors. Traffic and pedestrian safety through education and enforcement, deterrence, and enforcement of crime.

MED-Project Kiosk
The drug overdose epidemic is a clear and present public health and public safety threat. The community can do its part to turn in unneeded medications, removing them from potential misuse. The Schoharie Village Police Department announces the addition of a MED-Project Kiosk to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of unwanted or expired prescription drugs. The MED-Project Kiosk establishes a collection system that is reasonably convenient and free to the residents. The Kiosk is located at the Town/Village Hall, 300 Main Street in the Village of Schoharie, available 9am-3:00pm.

The Citizen Advisory Board was formed by the Village of Schoharie Board in March of 2021. Its function is to receive reports from the Schoharie Village Police Department as to the implementation of their Policies and Procedures, training opportunities, participation in the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Program (LEAD), community engagement and any other pertinent matters. In addition to hearing from the Police about their important activities, The Advisory Board is always looking for ways to hear from members of the community as to their impressions and opinions of police/citizen interactions within the Village. If you have something you would like to share relative to police/community relations, you are welcome to attend the quarterly meetings. The next meeting is scheduled for November 18th at 9:30 - and will be held at Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church at 289 Main Street in the Village of Schoharie.

The Schoharie Village Police Department, in conjunction with Project ChildSafe, the nationwide firearms safety education program, is distributing free firearms safety kits to local residents. The safety kits include a cable-style gun lock and will be distributed during community events, or you may get the kits at Schoharie Village Offices at 300 Main Street weekdays 9:00am to 3:00pm.
Project ChildSafe, a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), educates community members of safe firearms handling practices and works to reduce firearms accidents in local communities. Project ChildSafe has distributed more than 37 million firearm safety kits throughout the country since 2003.
